“The Chaos of Dreams” by Fate Hagood III is a powerful story that blends history, myth, and fantasy across generations.
It begins in the dark hold of the Clotilda, the last slave ship to bring Africans to America. There, we meet Abrihet, a young Ethiopian girl ripped from her home and forced into a nightmare voyage. Amidst suffering, she finds a fragile bond with Stuyvesant, an indentured deck boy. Their secret love draws the attention of a mysterious fae being, changing Abrihet’s fate forever. The Chaos of Dreams took me on an intense journey of commitment, love, terror, and pain. Dark Ferris, a partially trained Chosen, battles against demons that are attacking the City. But Dark and his Covenant are also under attack from the law, the government, and unseen forces that are chipping away at their self-confidence, willpower, and belief in each other. My heart pounded as page after page kept me riveted to the story until its conclusion, which only left me hungry for more. Fate Hagood III is a masterful storyteller. I developed a vested interest in the vivid characters that I just couldn’t walk away from. You Must Read This Book!
Chaos of Dreams transported me into a new fantasy world with a fresh take on the paranormal and supernatural, set in the familiar setting of Compton, from which I couldn’t tear myself away. The past, friendships tested, love yearned for, standing against relentless adversaries both supernatural and mundane, fighting for their future, this latest Dark Ferris story will keep you on the edge of your seat, touch your heart, and leave you gasping for breath from laughter, tears, and the most brilliant, surprising, and shocking moments.
This book shook me to my core. The way it bridges the brutal history of the slave trade with modern life and fantasy is unlike anything I’ve read before. It’s heartbreaking, magical, and deeply human. Abrihet’s story stayed with me long after I closed the book, and Dark’s struggle felt so real—like I knew him. Fate Hagood III has written something powerful, honest, and unforgettable.
I couldn’t put The Chaos of Dreams down. One moment I was on the deck of the Clotilda, the next I was in Compton with Dark fighting off supernatural threats. It felt like two worlds colliding—and somehow it worked perfectly. This is the kind of story that makes you laugh, cry, and think about life differently. If you’re looking for a book that has heart, history, and action, this is it.
What makes “The Chaos of Dreams” special is that it doesn’t shy away from pain or history, but it also doesn’t lose hope. The writing is vivid, the characters are layered, and the questions it raises about love, legacy, and resilience are the kind that matter. This isn’t just entertainment—it’s a story that speaks to the soul. I highly recommend it.
